January 13, 2012 - How could a study of Shakespeare’s Hamlet be made compelling for high school students?
The Advanced Placement English Literature and humanities classes of Bunny Akers at Warhill High School had the opportunity to do just that. A recent guest speaker spoke to the students about the complexity of the language of Shakespeare and the nuances that made this great playwright remain part of the core of any successful English curriculum.
Gary Logan (pictured) from the Folgers Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. was able to visit to the school recently to the delight of all the students. It did help that his son was a part of the class. |

Virginia Council on the Status of Women (VCSW) 2012 STEM Essay Contest
The Council on the Status of Women in collaboration with the Science Museum of Virginia announces the 2012 STEM Essay Contest. First Lady Maureen McDonnell serves as Honorary Chairwoman for the contest. The deadline for entries is 3 p.m. on February 20, 2012.
“The purpose of the Council on the Status of Women (Council) is to help women reach their potential and maximize their contribution to society and the Commonwealth as wage earners and citizens. The Council has initiated several projects to meet this goal, one being the annual essay contest for young women in high school.” . MORE |
