Ginny Hammack

Ginny Hammack, or "Nurse Ginny" as she likes to be called, has lived all over the United States, including Texas, (where she was born) Tennessee, Virginia (4 times), Mississippi, California, Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, and Ohio.  She also has lived in Frankfurt, Germany.  Although she has moved more that 20 times, she’s lived in Williamsburg longer than any other place.

Nurse Ginny is a graduate of Riverside School of Professional Nursing, and completed her undergraduate work at Christopher Newport University.

She chose to work in education because she loves to teach.  Her experience as a nurse began in a step down critical care surgical unit, and has included orthopedic nursing, home health nursing, opening and managing a physical rehabilitation hospital for neurological and orthopedic disorders, and working as an expert witness for a law firm.  During this time she developed a real love for teaching people how to care for themselves.  “There is no greater pleasure than to see someone you have taught be able to care for themselves independently,” writes Nurse Ginny.

Her first school position was as an elementary school nurse, but she found the educational opportunities limited because of the age of the students. When Warhill was scheduled to open she decided to transfer and work with teens as they begin their journey toward independence and self reliance.  Nurse Ginny adds, “I developed many rewarding relationships with students.  They are bright, energetic and will meet your expectations as long as you are clear about what your expectations are.  I love to learn about what makes people tick and most students are more than happy to share what they are passionate about. I love to watch their faces light up with joy when they find someone truly interested in what they think.”

Nurse Ginny is in a personal transition now as her children are in college and she has more time to rediscover hobbies.  She loves to cook and bake, and is working on a family cookbook.  She likes photography and is rediscovering this hobby by using the computer to chronicle photographs instead of the many photo albums used in the past.  She likes to sew, knit, and crochet and enjoys the outdoors.  She loves to read, and is a fan of murder mysteries and Jane Austen.  She also loves a good joke. Working as a school nurse allows her to devote time to her many interests and hobbies.

“Warhill High School is a wonderful school filled with dedicated caring professionals in every department.  I am honored to work here and invite you to come to the clinic any time, but don't forget your CLINIC PASS!”

Jose Valez Jose Velez, a native of Ponce, Puerto Rico, is a veteran of the United States Army.  He has worked in education for the past 13 years.  “I love working in education helping students achieve their full potential, but the most satisfying and fulfilling part is to encounter prior students that are now successful and responsible adults,” writes Mr. Perez. When he is not serving as Warhill’s ACS/ISS Assistant, Mr. Velez enjoys spending time at home with his family.

Ms. Georgis and her family moved to the Williamsburg area in 1997.  She had intended to retire, but after a year at home, she decided to return to the work force.  She began her new career as an Instructional Assistant in Special Education at Toano Middle School.  After nine years in middle school, she felt it was time to move on with the students she had been working with and was able to transfer to Warhill when it opened in 2007.
Ms. Georgis says, “I love working with young people, many of whom I have known since they were in sixth grade.  Seeing them grow and develop into young adults is a reward in and of itself. The best part is when I see students some years later and they come up to give me a hug and want to sit and talk.  It’s at that point that I know I have touched some part of their lives, and that is my reward.  I can’t imagine not being a part of high school life and all that is part of it.”

I believe that “to whom much is given, much is expected". It's rewarding to serve and to give back. I've been given so much.”
  Ms. Jackson

My name is Valerie Jackson and I am from Ruthville, Virginia in Charles City, County.  I graduated from Ruthville High School and attended J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and Virginia Union University.
I have been in the school system for about seventeen years. I initially started in education because the work schedule allowed me to be home in the afternoons with my children to attend their sporting activities.   I work in the Special Education Program as a Teacher’s Assistant.  After working with these students I developed a love for them and really enjoyed my work with them. I enjoy helping students learn and assisting them with life skills that will help them function in life outside of school.  It’s rewarding to help them to be the best they can be through education.  Over the years I have taken some of the students to different work sites and I’ve witnessed them gain a sense of accomplishment. I have even seen some of them work at the sites after graduation.  I enjoy talking to students about different situations just as if they were my own children.  I find it very fulfilling when I find I have encouraged and helped them make a good decision in their life that in some cases will help them long into their future.
