Etruscan Achievements and Early Expansion

In the history of the world, Rome is probably one of the grandest civilizations ever. However, if it weren't for the early Italians, particularly the Etruscans, Rome would not have been what it was.

The Etruscans were a group of highly civilized people who settled the Italian peninsula. We guess that they came from the East because of their knowledge of foreign animals. Their many early accomplishments prove that they were highly advanced for their time. Most Etruscans were miners, farmers, or seafaring people. Artisans were also present in Etruria. While, Etruscan art is recognized even today, it was only used for utilitarian purposes during the Etruscan's rule.

One thing that was highly unusual in Etruscan culture was that women were respected and treated equally as men. This was very unique in any ancient culture. Not only were women respected, but they also were able to participate in any social event in Etruria.

The Etruscans gave Rome much of their culture. Besides actually turning Rome into a city, they gave Rome the toga, architectural techniques, and a sewer system. Also, Rome got their basis of religion from the Etruscans.

Eventually, the Etruscans fell in power and were "absorbed" by the city of Rome. However, they are still remembered today for their many contributions to the Mediterranean.
