SHIP is a partnership between the Williamsburg James City County (WJCC) School Division and the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation (WCHF), and a multitude of other community partners that are committed to working together to create a healthier community. SHIP’s mission is to improve health and wellness for WJCC students and staff by supporting and promoting healthy eating and physical activity in the school, home, and community. SHIP’s vision of success is when:
SHIP’s major programs include after school Challenge Clubs for students; staff wellness programs, and a Wellness Integration Program (WIP) that trains elementary teachers how to integrate physical activity into the teaching of core subjects. SHIP’s programs are supported by KidLink Teams at each school. These teams are responsible for initiating and coordinating activities and practice changes in order to create a school environment that makes the healthy choice the easy choice for students and staff.
