Schoolhouse Rock Presented by Virginia Beach High School Thespians
Penguin students were mesmerized by the song and dance of 1970's TV hits from Schoolhouse Rock. No youthful wiggling was seen in the crowd of students as they viewed the talented team of Kempsville High School teens dance and sing an ensemble of the much loved knowledge tunes. Rawls Byrd's own Kindergarten teacher, Dana Margulies, choreographed their routines and suggested they practice their show on our penguin audience before they set off for their highlight performance at Disney World in Orlando.

Are Honored by the
VA Board of Education
for the 2nd Year in a Row
Top performing schools have been named by the Virginia Board of Education this week and Rawls Byrd Elementary is ranked among the best for a second year. Ten school divisions and 276 schools earned the Board of Education's Competence to Excellence Award. This award recognizes schools and divisions that have met all state and federal benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and are making progress toward VIP objectives reflecting the goals of Governor Kaine and the board. Twenty-five school divisions and 322 schools received the award last year.

Science Night
Full of Learning and Fun
The evening showed students how much math and science intertwined with booth activities manned by volunteers from Lafayette High School's math and science classes. Organizers of the event created hands-on activities for students to manipulate and apply their current learning. Math specialist, Connie Sheppard, 3rd grade teacher, Rose Burwell, science coordinator, Linda Woodard and Lafayette High school science teacher, Hugh Beard, coordinated this fun event. The Rawls Byrd PTA and the Norge Relay for Life team provided refreshments for the our budding scientists and mathematicians.
