Vocabulary:
Shutdown turns the computer off.
Restart turns the computer off and then back on again.
Stand-by appears to turn the computer off. It is actually ready for immediate use, but is using less electricity. It will spring back to life with the simple stroke of one of the keys.
Dialogue Box: a box that appears when the computer wants you to make a choice. It will give you two or more options from which to choose. Once you have made your choice, the dialogue box will disappear.

How to shutdown, restart, or put the computer on stand-by
Windows:
Click on start,

and then click on shutdown. A dialogue box will appear.

Click on the dropdown arrow and choose shutdown, restart, or stand-by depending upon what you want the computer to do, then click OK or strike the Enter key.
