| Lafayette is one of three high schools of the Williamsburg-James City Public School Division, serving both the City of Williamsburg and James City County in Virginia. At Lafayette we offer a comprehensive curriculum to students in grades 9 to 12, using a semesterized 4X4 block schedule. Students can earn four full credits per semester, eight credits per year, and thirty-two credits by graduation. Opened in 1973, the school was named after two Revolutionary War heroes: James Lafayette and Marquis de Lafayette. Over the years of operation, Lafayette has undergone major building renovations and various technology upgrades since 1973. A second high school (Jamestown High) opened in 1997-98, and then a third high school (Warhill High) opened in 2007-08. Lafayette is a participant in New Horizons Regional Education Center which operates many technical high school programs for 6 surrounding public school districts. |
