Does my daughter or son need 4 years of college to be successful?

“What’s more, only half of the jobs landed by these new graduates even require a college degree, reviving debates about whether higher education is “worth it” after all.”

“Among the members of the class of 2010, just 56 percent had held at least one job by this spring, when the survey was conducted. That compares with 90 percent of graduates from the classes of 2006 and 2007.”

“Nationally, four-year colleges graduated an average of just 53% of entering students within six years, and "rates below 50%, 40% and even 30% are distressingly easy to find," USA TODAY

“The top ten most in-demand jobs in 2010 did not exist in 2004.”” 44% of households earning over $100,000 have to take out loans.

“The average total of debt per student in the class of 2011 will be $22,900, according to Mark Kantrowitz, publisher of student-aid websites Fastweb.com and FinAid.org. This figure includes the loans parents took on to pay for their kids' education. “The Wall Street Journal, May 7, 2011
