It is the philosophy of Lafayette High School that a competitive athletic program be provided and that the primary goal will be to help the student/athlete grow not only athletically but also academically, emotionally, physically and socially. It is the intent that the athletic program have broad participation by as many boys and girls as possible and that our teams will compete on an even basis with other schools, but never at the sacrifice of sportsmanship, academic priority, or general welfare of the school or student.
As a school it will be the duty of the staff to teach our student/athletes how to be successful in an honest and sportsmanlike manner through good and bad experiences. This will include instructing our student/athletes on standards of behavior which include: manners, responsibility, reliability, dependability, self-discipline, self-esteem, perseverance, teamwork and how to become partners with the entire communtiy in citizenship and civic duty.

We believe that athletics at Lafayette High School provide one of the best avenues in the school to teach students the ways of a better life. Through athletics it is our intention to guide and prepare our athletes for what lies ahead of them in the future. Athletics is also the arena of the school where we can teach our students the need to work together, not only as a team, but towards the necessity of helping others outside the team. These, like many other virtues that we want for our students, can and should be explored by using athletics as its vehicle.
As administrators and coaches of Lafayette High School, we will use athletics as a strict reminder that academic excellence and civic duties are a must. The role of athletics at Lafayette will provide for one of the best support systems to the athlete's academic program. Study halls will be held as often as possible so that we can help ensure that our athletes are working towards academic excellence. Also, community service projects will be completed by individual teams to teach our athletes the need for all of us to help others.
Through athletics, academics and community service our athletes will learn how they can make a difference in the world they live.
