The WJCC Community Scholarship Fund, Inc. is a non-profit organization that exists solely to provide scholarships for students graduating from Jamestown, Lafayette, and Warhill High Schools, serving Williamsburg and James City County. The fund has no paid employees and is run entirely by volunteers. All money raised, except for direct operating expenses, is used for scholarships awarded, without discrimination, in consideration of these factors: curriculum difficulty, class rank, extra-curricular activities, application essay, and financial need. It is not necessary for a student to show financial need in order to be eligible for a WJCC CSF scholarship.
The fund was founded in 1974, when it awarded seven scholarships totaling $1,500. Just as the Fund’s ability to provide scholarships has grown, so has the need. Each year the number of deserving aspirants grows, and each year the cost of higher education rises. Our 2010 goal is $60,000. In 2009, 52 scholarships valued at $41,900 were awarded to Lafayette, Jamestown, and Warhill High School Students. The minimum award was $600. MORE
