The primary goal of the String Orchestra program is to provide each student with an opportunity for growth in musical skills and knowledge through individual and ensemble achievement. Specifically, Orchestra members will continue to be taught skills specific to string players in the context of rehearsals. These may include basic instrument and bow hold positions, the ability to tune one’s instrument, a knowledge of major and minor scales, a variety of bowing styles, good intonation and skill appropriate tone production. Daily rehearsals prepare students for various performances scheduled throughout the school year, including Winter and Spring Concerts, Masterworks Concert, and District Orchestra Festival. Students are also encouraged to audition for Senior Regional Orchestra, All-Virginia Orchestra, and to participate in Musical Theater Pit Orchestra and other various ensembles. |
