Dear FBLA Members,
This year has been a busy one for the Jamestown High School
FBLA club. We have gone on a field trip to the Federal Reserve
Bank, had two guest speakers come in to tell us about the
business world, and have done many different fundraisers
for both charity and to help our club.
The
trip to the Federal Reserve Bank was a very exciting experience
for us all. We were given a tour of the entire building,
including where the money came in to be counted. We were
taught about how the system worked, and were told about
different job opportunities one could seek there.
We had two guest speakers: one to teach us about computer
repair, and the other to tell us about how to apply for
jobs. We learned how to use proper terminology of computers
to help the computer technicians do their job correctly.
The other speaker, from Barbizon School of Modeling, taught
us how to apply to jobs, and gave us tips of what to wear
and what would go with us best. We also learned about how
to answer interview questions.
Some
of the fundraisers we've done are the Great America Fundraising
Cookie Dough, collecting donations for needy families during
Thanksgiving, and selling Virginia Peanuts. We also are
planning to do the Leukemia Society Type-A-Thon in the near
future.
We currently have 50 members, consisting of 29 Caucasians,
13 African-Americans, 2 American Indians, and 1 Asian. There
are 34 females, 16 males.
FBLA began at Jamestown High School 8 years ago, September,
1997, when the high school was opened. Currently, Jamestown
High School has over 1,400 students. |
