Kindergarten Assessment

This Kindergarten Assessment was first done using PowerPoint.  It was then turned into an Adobe .pdf file.  Using Adobe Acrobat, buttons and actions were added.  At the end of the assessment, a graded paper can be printed.

This Kindergarten Assessment can be given to the entire class at once in the computer lab in about a half hour.  What once took the teacher hours of individual testing with each student can be done in a fraction of the time.  This allows the assessment to be done several times a year to track the progress of the class.

Rhyming Game

This activity began in PowerPoint.  It was then turned into an Adobe .pdf file.  Using Adobe Acrobat, buttons and actions were added to make it interactive for the students.  Since most kindergarteners cannot read, the instructions were recorded.

Later an assessment page was added so you could see at a glance how many items were missed.  This page can be printed or reviewed on the screen.

It is a favorite in my classroom.  I have created a shortcut on my desktop so students can access it easily for practice and review.

The First Thanksgiving
tatumn@wjcc.k12.va.us

This activity began as a project with pre-service teachers from The College of William and Mary.  I asked the students to help create an introduction to a unit on Native Americans.  We ended up continuing the project through the time until the first Thanksgiving.  It consists of three parts.  The first is a PowerPoint, the second an interactive quiz using Adobe Acrobat, and the third is a streaming video inserted into the activity.  The quiz can be printed, but it was designed so that results could be tabulated while the student is watching the video.  After each child's score was recorded, we make their movie show "full screen", so we could tell at a glance if their score was recorded.  It runs about 1/2 hour and each child proceeds at their own pace. (The movie "Giving Thanks" was downloaded at our school through a subscription with whro.videostreaming.com.  Therefore, we cannot provide link the video through this site.)
