Autobiographies using PowerPoint By Rob Moff
We combine our Autobiography writing/research assignment with technology. First, the children work with their family to gather all the information. They are encouraged to bring in pictures to be scanned and inserted into the PowerPoint presentation. When they have all the needed information, they begin creating their PowerPoint slide show.
The basics of PowerPoint are covered such as inserting slides, text boxes, backgrounds, sounds and pictures. The children learn how to set up slide transitions, custom animations and timing. Many children master the basics quickly and move on to more advanced features.
The children are given an outline of required items for the autobiography. They include: · Title page · Birth information · Family · Education · Hobbies · Accomplishments · Goals · Vacations · Favorites · Pets · “What is special about me” · Dedication
After the required items are complete, they may add additional slides as time permits.
This activity has become a favorite of our fifth grade students. Parents are thrilled with the “quality time” this project creates. Sitting down with your child and sifting through old pictures brings back priceless memories. |
