Parent Communication By Heather Cline and Kate Sikes
A 2001 survey showed 51% of US households had Internet access. An informal survey in our school showed approximately 76% of our children have internet access at home.
Parents are kept up to date on what’s going on in their child’s classroom. Using our digital cameras, pictures from class trips and daily activities are posted to the web site before the children get home. Parents, and even far-away relatives can keep up with what’s going on at school.
We recently received the following letter from a Kindergarten grandparent:
RE: Thank you for sharing your class with us
Dear Mrs. Tatum, We are Christian's grandparents and are delighted to see your web site! We loved being able to share his birthday party today! We were sad that we couldn't be there to celebrate Christian's special day but Indiana is a long way from Virginia. It appears that you have a very full day with your class. Their art is very colorful and deserves an "A." I hope all of your children keep learning and enjoying their school year!
Links from the class web page give information on important dates, lunch menus, supply lists, phone numbers, and what “center” class they have (art, music, PE). Although we still hand out this information to the children to bring home, parents tell us they love having it so easily accessible.
Click below or on the web page pictures for links.
Our PowerPoint presentations are “looped” during open houses and parent conferences. They are later linked from the class website.
