Lafayette High School serves both the City of Williamsburg and James City County in Virginia. At Lafayette we offer a comprehensive curriculum to students in grades 9 to 12, using a semesterized 4X4 block schedule. Students earn four full credits per semester, eight credits per year, and thirty-two credits by graduation.
Opened in 1973, the school was named after two Revolutionary War heroes: James Lafayette and Marquis de Lafayette. After over twenty years of operation, Lafayette has undergone a building renovation and technology upgrade. A second high school (Jamestown High) opened in 1997-98, and our student body of 2000 split, except for the Class of 1998 which remained at Lafayette until graduation. The following year, each high school served 1200 students.
Lafayette is a participant in New Horizons Regional Education Center which operates the following high school programs for 6 surrounding public school districts: Governor's School for Science and Technology, Career-Technical Education , Special Education , and Point Option/New Summits program.
