The high school GED® program has three components: GED® Prep, Accelerated GED®, and Individual Student Alternative Education Program (ISAEP).
The GED® Prep class is designed to help students whose academic performance is between 7th and 8th grade level to improve basic reading, writing and math skills, so that they will be able to advance to the next class level class. This class meets from 12:00-2:00 p.m., daily.
The Accelerated GED® class is designed to meet the needs of students whose reading, writing and math skills are above 9th grade level. These students have earned few credits toward obtaining a high school diploma. Instruction is directed towards the requirements of the GED® exam, as well as completing a vocational component. The vocational component includes classroom instruction plus 50 hours of work experience or volunteer work outside of the classroom. Upon completion of the program, and meeting all testing requirements, students are expected to qualify for the GED® certificate. The class meets from 9:50-11:50 a.m., daily.
The ISAEP class is similar to the Accelerated GED® class, but with more stringent eligibility requirements for initial entry into the class. In addition to GED® preparation, the students must also complete a vocational component. The class meets from 9:50 a.m. – 11:50 a.m., Monday – Thursday.
All classes meet in the Educational Center at James Blair. Transportation is provided for all classes. For more information, click HERE.
