Berkeley Students Use Mr. Potato Head To Learn About Heredity
Mary Crowder’s 7th grade science class at Berkeley Middle School has been learning about heredity and how traits are passed from generation to generation. In an activity using a Mr. Potato Head character, concepts of traits, chromosomes, inheritance and dominant or recessive alleles are demonstrated using Mr. Potato Head as a substitute for a real person. After the dominant and recessive traits are determined, the student roll dice (resembling how traits are passed from parent to offspring), assign the trait, and create the resulting face on their Potato Head.
