Governor’s Academy Offers Free Engineering Technology Series To 7th and 8th Graders

The Governor’s Academy for Innovation, Technology and Engineering (GAITE) will offer a free three-part Engineering Technology Exploratory Saturday Series for 7th and 8th graders starting Jan. 21 at Thomas Nelson Community College.  The workshops will engage and inspire students to pursue careers in engineering technology and other STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields.  Each event highlights a STEM theme with hands-on activities such as robotics, rockets, etc. The first session is “Designing the Future,” to be held Jan. 21 at Thomas Nelson Community College; the second will be Feb. 25 at Canon Virginia and is titled “Connecting the Future;” and the third session, titled “Automating the Future,” will be March 17 at NASA Langley.

Students need to complete only one application to attend all three workshops.  Seventy-five students will be chosen to participate.  All events will occur from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and lunch is provided.  Transportation is the responsibility of the student.  Click [HERE] for more information and to download an application.
