Third Annual Sleighbell 5K Raises $8,500 For Support Of SHIP Programs
A record 576 participants ran in the recent third annual Sleighbell 5K run at the Williamsburg Sentara Regional Medical Center’s Geddy Outpatient Center to raise funds for School Health Initiative Program (SHIP) activities. A total of 269 WJCC students and staff, including 150 from nine school running clubs, participated. Clara Byrd Baker Elementary School brought the largest team with 39. Rawls Byrd Elementary School physical education instructor Adam Otstot won the race with a time of 15:58; Karen Terry was the fastest female participant with a time of 18:22. The $8,500 in funds raised during the race will help support SHIP’s Challenge Clubs, which keeps kids physically active and teaches them about healthy eating. SHIP is funded by the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation.
