Rawls Byrd’s Military Families Gather To Offer Thanks, Support
Students who have parents serving in the military recently gathered at Rawls Byrd Elementary School to honor and celebrate their families. Fifth grader Grace Olsen was the Master of Ceremonies and led the celebration by reading a heartfelt tribute to her father, who is currently serving overseas. Her sister, Ava Olsen (pictured), contributed by reading a story about military families aloud to the group. Fifth grader Nora Sears said, “I am so proud of my dad, if he were here I would give him a hug. Wait, he is here!” Her father, who is getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan, was in the audience to hear her speech. He granted her wish by offering her a hug. Eight students shared their stories with each other and offered a sense of community and support.
