Curriculum: Wrold Languages

World language instruction begins in Williamsburg-James City County Schools in the sixth grade with Latin for Word Power. In 7th grade students may elect to begin a full year of one of four languages: French, German, Latin or Spanish.  After reaching high school, students have an additional world language selection - American Sign Language. Every student in WJC Schools must have at least one year of foreign language in order to graduate. The purpose of the program is to prepare students for a global society through language and through learning about other cultures. Students have many opportunities for active learning through person-to-person communication and special projects related to the individual language.
