The WJCC School Health Services program recognizes the relationship between students’ health status and their ability to learn and be successful in the academic arena. Our health services staff works actively to eliminate barriers that hinder student learning, school entry, and attendance. The health services program helps students seek an optimal level of physical, mental and social development; links home, school and community; and promotes healthy activities and behaviors that lead to academic success. Health Services includes nursing services, occupational and physical therapy services, and homebound services.

W-JCC WEB FEATURE: RECENT PRODUCT RECALLS
Because the Williamsburg-James City County School Division makes the safety of its students and their families its first priority, we have added a regular feature entitled “Recent Product Recalls” to our website that can be found HERE. W-JCC's Supervisor of Health Services, Janice Fowler closely monitors current product recall information, and will post it under “Recent Product Recalls” whenever we become aware of it as a public service. Nursing Services |
Each school in our Division has a registered nurse and a fully equipped clinic that enables the nurse to function as a valuable member of our school community. A Clinic Assistant at each high school provides needed support for these highly populated schools; an itinerant Clinic Assistant supports the elementary and middle school clinics.[MORE].

Homebound Information for Parents
Homebound instruction is available to students who are confined at home or in a health care facility for periods that prevent regular school attendance (longer than 2 weeks) based upon certification of need by a licensed physician or licensed clinical psychologist. Accommodations for absences of less than 2 weeks are developed on an individual basis by the student’s home school staff. Eligibility for homebound instruction is determined on the basis of the medical evidence submitted by a licensed physician or licensed clinical psychologist (Medical Certification of Need for Homebound Instruction). The school division reviews all requests for completeness of information and appropriateness of the request. Approval is determined by school division personnel on the basis of the student’s documented need for service.
The goals of homebound services are to sustain continuity of instruction and to facilitate the student’s return to school. Requests for homebound instruction extending beyond nine weeks must be substantiated by a treatment plan from the attending physician or licensed clinical psychologist. Homebound instruction is not intended to supplant school services and is by design temporary. While no specific number of days can be set due to the many complex variations among children, the “temporary” requirement is based on the premise that instruction should take place in the school setting to the fullest extent possible.
