The Transportation Department maintains a fleet of 205 vehicles of which 155 are school buses. We have a daily requirement to operate 125 school buses and 4 automobiles in support of the programs in WJCC and surrounding school divisions. We support 3 High Schools, 3 Middle Schools, 9 Elementary Schools and 1 GED Program within our community. Daily routes also transport students to/from the City of Hampton, City of Newport News and Your County for multiple programs. We complete just over 640 school bus runs each day along with field trips and VHSL Trips. After School Programs are offered in every school and school bus service is provided to return those students back to their homes/neighborhoods most evenings. Our maintenance shop is comprised of a Shop Foreman, Parts Room Specialist and 6 mechanics. Our mechanic to vehicle ratio is 34 to 1. We have 3 Supervisors, 1 Senior Administrative Assistant, 2 Dispatchers, 2 Route Schedulers and 1 Trainer.
The school bus fleet (144 buses), maintenance/motor pool vehicles (47), and work trailers (2) are maintained by six mechanics, one parts room specialist and a Shop Foreman. The vehicles in WJCC Public Schools are in excellent shape and well maintained. For the Transportation Hotline, Dial 259-4154. Transportation Dispatch: Dial 565-0808 Earl Tyler |
