Help your child feel confident about taking tests by utilizing the 4 R’s.
Receptive. Attitude is everything. Help your child to have an openness toward taking tests by emphasizing that tests are just one part of the learning experience. Remind your children that a test is simply a tool to measure how much they have learned.
Relaxed. In order to prevent your child from getting hung up on how difficult a test might be, have them answer the easier questions first. This will help to build their confidence as they take the test. Reassure your child that your approval is not dependent upon a test score.
Ready. Ensure your child has completed the daily classwork and homework upon which tests and quizzes are based. Establish a daily study time with a designated quiet location.
Rested. Whenever a test will be given, make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep, eats a healthy breakfast, dresses comfortably, and most importantly, is on time for school!
