BERKELEY MIDDLE STUDENTS EXPLORE 16 CAREER PATHWAYS AT “CAREER DAY”
Approximately 300 Berkeley Middle School 8th graders recently had the opportunity to explore 16 careers by talking to area professionals who attended BMS’s “Career Day” event. Seventh grade classes were visited by individual career representatives. The goal of Career Day was to introduce students, as well as parents and community members, to the 16 Career Pathways that the U.S. Department of Education has recommended that all students become familiar with. From these 16 Career Pathways [CLICK HERE FOR LIST], students will be able to pursue most careers. The Division invited employers representing the 16 pathways to attend. They talked with students about the pathways, helping them to discover many career options within each pathway. Students learned which careers require a high school diploma, or two- or four-year college degrees. Warhill High School students currently enrolled in career and technical education classes talked to middle school students about their experiences. BMS students who helped set up the day's events included Jesse McCue-Gomes, Danielle Jacobs, Caramia Capone, Sarah D'Arcy, Elizabeth Austin, and Shaterrick Taliaferro. Students may use the Career Planning Guide on the W-JCC website [CLICK HERE] that correlates to the 16 career areas. This year’s Youth Career Expo will be held Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hampton Convention Center.
